Aranami Ring

Aranami — rough waves. In the visual language of Edo-period woodblock prints, water is never still; it curls, breaks, repeats. The wave pattern is one of the oldest geometric vocabularies in Japanese decorative art — rhythm made permanent, motion arrested in form. The ring follows that rhythm. Aranami carving encircles the band, each arc meeting the next in an unbroken sequence — the same restless energy that moves across lacquerware, textile, and print, now pressed into metal. It is a surface that rewards looking closely. At the centre, a 4.7 carat Sri Lankan cushion sapphire — natural, unheated — the colour of deep water. Not ornament placed upon the wave, but something the wave has always been carrying.
